Steve Becker graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2007 with a degree in Kinesiology, specializing in Exercise Physiology.
Steve worked for the Milwaukee Bucks as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach from 2006-2008, where he trained All-Star guards Mo Williams and Michael Redd as well as Andrew Bogut, who was the 1st overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. From 2006-2009, Becker further honed his skills through training the Men’s and Women’s Olympic Sports Teams at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on a volunteer basis.
Following his experiences with the Bucks and UW-Milwaukee, Becker spent the 2009-2010 NBA Season with the Portland Trail Blazers as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach. During his time in Portland, Steve worked with All-Star forward Brandon Roy and Greg Oden, the 1st overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Steve represented the Trail Blazers at the 2010 NBA pre-draft camp, taking player measurements as well as coaching them through strength, speed and agility testing.
While in Portland, Steve volunteered his time training the University of Oregon Men’s basketball team of the Pac-10. He also traveled to Boise to set up a strength and conditioning program for the NBDL’s Idaho Stampede, part of the NBA D-League. Additionally, Steve worked at the Nike Hoops Summit, a high school basketball game organized by Nike Basketball that featured the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Select Team and the World Select Team.
Steve has since expanded his professional portfolio into the international arena. In May 2015, Steve traveled to China to work with the Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association as a Strength and Conditioning Consultant. Steve’s relationship with the Southern Tigers continues to this day, as he will be training the team in Los Angeles during Summer 2017 in preparation for the Provincial Games in China.
During the Summer of 2016, Steve traveled to Hawaii and Australia to create a unique strength and conditioning training program for San Antonio Spurs point guard Patty Mills in the lead up to Mills’ appearance with the Australian National Team for the 2016 Olympics. Mills continued with Steve’s program for the duration of the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. Steve continues to work with Mills on his strength and conditioning.
Steve has further served as a performance consultant for the Chinese National Team, Junior National Team and other teams from the Chinese Basketball Association at the United States Basketball Academy.
Steve’s primary role is owner and operator of Athlete Performance, LLC in Mequon, Wisconsin, which he founded in 2010. He continues to train the Milwaukee area’s top athletes through sport-specific strength and conditioning programs at Athlete Performance. He has been training NBA, NFL prospects for summer training camps as well as preparing basketball players for the NBDL and overseas leagues. Steve’s experiences in professional and college sports have given him a distinct edge in the development of training programs that target athlete development. Steve’s passion for training is reflected in his continuous desire to educate himself in order to provide his athletes with the latest and most cutting-edge training programs available.
